Travis Journagan: Owner
Travis grew up canoeing almost every weekend on rivers in the Ozarks in southwest Missouri. He began his guiding career on the Rio Grande in New Mexico with New Wave rafting. From there he continued river guiding on the Salt River in Arizona, which consisted of numerous multi-day wilderness trips. Travis first came to Maine in the fall of 2001, and spent many winter days kayaking off the shores of Southport Island. In addition to being an avid sea kayaker, he enjoys getting out in his whitewater canoe whenever it rains. Travis is always looking for a new adventure, and has found a couple of creeks in Maine that he was likely the first to explore. He started guiding for Tidal Transit in 2002, and bought the company in 2005. Travis believes that sea kayaking is a sport for everyone, and that by bringing people out on the water in an environmentally friendly way, the rivers and oceans can be preserved for future generations.
Maria Jenness: Guide & Shop Manager
A Vermont native, Maria grew up spending summers on Southport Island. She obtained her Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide license in 2004, and spent her first season guiding in Bar Harbor. Maria has kayaked up and down the Maine coast, but her love of the Boothbay Region brought her back to guide in this area. She enjoys getting out on the water, whether kayaking on the ocean or creeks, canoeing, or stand-up paddle-boarding. When she is not working or paddling, she can usually be found farming or playing Ultimate Frisbee. In recent years Maria has spent winters guiding river trips in Big Bend, Texas.
Ralph Reeve: Guide
Ralph was raised in the Chicago area, and graduated from the University of Illinois. Before moving to Boothbay, Maine, he lived and worked for 30 years in Denver, Colorado. He has kayaked for approximately 21 years and now enjoys being a licensed Maine Guide. Ralph's experience includes many multi-day kayak trips in Belize, Baja, Mexico, and the Virgin Islands. Ralph enjoys instructing rescue and re-entry techniques and just having fun on the water. Ralph lives on Barters Island in Boothbay with his two dogs, and can often be found during the winter months out on the water in his kayak.
Kevin Kiley has been working with Tidal Transit Kayak Company since 2002 helping with tours and keeping rentals moving in the shop. He has lived in the Boothbay area for 28 years, enjoying everything all four seasons have to offer. Kevin also works as a professional pianist and actor, playing piano in a local dining room as the evening sunset kayak tours go by.
Rob Stenger: Guide
Rob grew up on the St. George peninsula in Midcoast Maine, scrambling around the tide pools, mud flats and rocky beaches of the beautiful coastline. He began his guiding career as a whitewater raft guide on Maine's inland rivers, but was drawn back to the coast and became a Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide in 2010. Rob has also spent many years as an environmental educator, and takes a particular interest in helping people to explore the flora and fauna of the Gulf of Maine bioregion. He also especially enjoys leading youth and overnight trips and expeditions.
